For The Cure Season

Susan G. Komen For The CureAll over the country, it's Susan G. Komen For the Cure season! Running and walking events are taking place in dozens of cities throughout the summer and fall to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer.  We're proud to be part of the effort.

Since 1989, New Balance has been committed to Susan G. Komen for the Cure through the National Series Sponsorship of the Race for the Cure® and Breast Cancer 3-Day.  The events are terrifically well-organized and supported by countless volunteers, and play out as much like a celebration as an athletic endeavor.  In addition to helping raise money, the events are a very moving opportunity to honor a breast cancer victim or survivor.  If you haven't been part of a Susan G. Komen before, please consider it this season.

If you're participating or just want to look good and do good while spiffing up your active look, check out our Pink Ribbon collection here. New Balance donates 15% of wholesale sales from this collection to Komen for the Cure.

We're running a while supplies last Mothers Day promotion on our site. Perhaps you've already seen the "Remember Mom" banner on our site?

Why not get Mom a pair of New Balance this Mothers Day? This gift with purchase offer is good while supplies last and is void where prohibited (I gotta add the legal stuff). Here he is, isn't he cute? Oh and the Share The Care will be making a Donation to support Breast Cancer Research and Patient Care for every Bear that we distribute.

New Balance Shoe Finder

New Balance Shoe FinderI wanted to let everyone know about a new feature we launched yesterday. It's called the New Balance Shoe Finder and you'll find it right on our home page. I've seen similar features on other Footwear Web Sites but I was always disappointed because I always found that these sites would allow users to choose from possibilities that they didn't really have Shoes for and that resulted in irritating "Sorry No Shoes Found" messages.

So that's the problem we set out to solve. Let our customers find what they're looking for without the irritation by choosing...

  • Their Gender

  • Available Sizes for their Gender

  • Available Widths for their Gender and Size selection

New Balance Size SelectorThe last 2 elements are the most important to you the customer. Our system was designed to not show you options that don't have matching shoes and so when you select your Gender the Shoe Size Selector will become enabled.

Once you've made your Gender selection our system will check for all available sizes that match your Gender selection and populate them into the Shoe Size selector.

After a Size Selection has been made the system will then perform that same type of action and return all available shoe widths that match your Gender and Size selections!

Once your selections are made click the "Get Shoes" Link to view all of the possible footwear models based on your criteria.

To make it easy we've grouped the results by Category and we've provided you with simple filtering tools so that you can remove the Categories that you do not wish to see.

Here's what the filtering options look like for my search which was for Mens, Size 11 and D Width.

We hope you enjoy the new feature!

Love the LOVE/hate

You've probably seen it by now – the just-launched New Balance LOVE/hate campaign in all its red-world glory, the one that so accurately captures the runner's paradigm: we hate the parts that punish us, but dearly love the rewards.

What's so cool about this campaign is the immediate recognition that New Balance really gets it.  New Balance has always been way ahead of the curve in terms of understanding the mechanics of running, but here they are deep into the motivation, nature and mindset of runners. The ads make you think, wow, these guys really understand what it's like!

Pretty clever how the attributes of various models are played up with the relationship metaphor, too.  For instance, the ad for the 768 touts its stability system by mentioning that its "optimal rigidity provides support for a long, stable relationship."

Tagline: LOVE/hate.  this is the New Balance.

Sweet!

Runner’s World shout out: New Balance Storm Striker

Runner's World field tested 20 lightweight shell jackets for the  May 2008 issue – and featured the New Balance Storm Striker as one of their Top 6 picks. Of course, we're partial to the light, breathable fabric and sturdy construction of the NB model, but it's nice to get confirmation and kudos from a high-profile third party.  Headlined "The Foul-Weather Friend," the review goes on to say:

"This sturdy shell kept us dry through some nasty downpours, thanks to a seam-sealed design that locks moisture out. And its hood magnetically attaches to the collar, making it easy to remove when skies clear."

It's true – that magnet dealio with the hood is really nifty.  You get the superior protection of a hood without the hassles of zippers, Velcro, or worse, having the thing flapping around back there when you don't need it. Just pop it off or right back on without even breaking stride.

New Balance In The News At Advertising Age

Here's the article, it was published last Thursday on the Advertising Age web site. New Balance, hot on the heels of declaring that they're going to double revenues by 2012 has consolidated their Global Marketing Agency strategy.

Smart move on their part, if you're buying media globally from global media outlets why not aggregate your buying power into a single powerful agency that may already have leverage in those markets?

New Balance had shifted their North American media to PHD last October so obviously they're happy with the results if they're now gearing up with PHD on a Global level.

Oh, and is it just me or are you also noticing the NB Zip models appear in more media releases? I bet it has everything to do with the drive to add younger consumers to the New Balance fold, what about you?

Multi-View Feature Lets You See New Balance Footwear Upclose

New Balance 1009We've added a new feature here at New Balance Tampa that I think you're all going to like. Multi-View images are now appearing on several New Balance footwear product pages on our site. I say several because creating Multi-View Images happens to be a very time consuming process that requires sending the footwear to a professional photographer. To that end, we have completed Multi-View images for 16 models.

We feel that these types of professionally created close-ups will really help you the Customer get a better feel for things such as Color, Fabric, Lacing material, Stitching in addition to the quality that is found in New Balance footwear.

Shoes on our site that have Multi-View images will have a Multi-View link right on the product page for you to click.

Click the Multi View link to start reviewing the various images. You can toggle between 8 different angles using the links located at the top of the window.

As I mentioned earlier, we have completed Multi-View imagery for 16 models. These are the models that are already Multi View enabled; we hope to finish the catalog in the coming weeks. Please let us know if you have any feedback.
