Pretty Pink Zips

The new zip 8508 is here and as stylish as ever. I'm infatuated with the Grey/Pink color-way. It is a great responsive runner that is feminine and cool. The male versions are equally as sleek. This is a great shoe for a young neutral runner that wants form and function. It is a little on the narrow side so you may want to go up a half size if you are wide.

Run St Paddies

When one thinks of St. Patrick's Day, they may not think of fitness. However, it you are going to drink your daily caloric value that night, you might as well make some room by running a St. Patties day race. Good thing there are dozens of races around the country. You can run a 5K in St Louis with the parade or a 10K in Colorado Springs. You can Dash about in Seattle or if you are ready for the big time, the 65th Annual St. Patrick's Day Race in South Boston. There is nothing like P-Day in Boston, but all of these races will be great fun.

1061

I've noticed that many people have been searching for the 1061 on the site lately. This is a great high-end performance trainer, which has been wildly popular both in the store and on the site. If you were interested in 1061 I'd urge you not to wait. The updated 1062 has already been issued. It too is a high-end neutral runner, that 1061 wearers would transition to well. That means the 1061 is in limited supply and the 1062 is not available online. If you have questions about the new 1062 or the availability of the 1061 please call us Toll Free: 877-628-2672

Lacing Ideas

Lacing is half the battle in the fight for the perfect fit. The good old crisscross is not the only option for a snug and comfortable fit. Check out these videos from our friends at Runner's World to help you find the lacing that is right for your feet.

MT1110

I wanted to review a cool new off road trainer, the MT1110. Off road runners have a tendency to be chunky. Yet the MT1110 maintains a sleek design while maintaining its ruggedness. Some of the features of the MT1110 are a Gore-Tex® XCR lining, ROCK STOP™ 2 outsole, Seamless Upper, SURE LACE™ closures, and Gusseted Tongue. It's a prefect blend of style and function.

20th Anniversary of the 576

Everything old is new again, and with that sentiment, New Balance announced the 20th Anniversary of the 576 model. New Balance has re-created this sneaker in a retro colorway of black and teal. This new 576 features a vintage Encap midsole and heelcup. It also comes in the original white box and in a white sneaker bag to complete the old school effect. Like always limited editions are very limited and highly coveted.

Urban Dare

Road races are fun, but if you're looking for something a little bit more daring why not try an Urban Dare race. Urban Dare is the team race that's part photo hunt, part trivia and part dares. Teams of 2 must solve clues to find checkpoints throughout the city. Each team must determine their own route to the checkpoints. Most teams will cover about 5 to 7 miles and finish in about 3 or 4 hours. One wins by being the first team to cross the finish line after successfully completing checkpoint dares and getting required photos. This is great to do with your friends or kids. Best of all there are races all over the country so go find one near you.

Early Review of 1224

The 1223 has been New Balance most popular shoe and will be updated to the 1224 around September, but fear not, the update is great. The 1224 will feature the TS2 medial post and extended stability web, just as the 1223 did. 1224's will have the brand new, and eco-friendly, Cocona Phantom Liners. Cocona is a naturally anti-microbial material made from coconut fibers. This will also be the first shoe with a Cocona liner. The biggest difference is a reforming of the Abzorb DTS in the heel, which will provide more cushioning and a sleek look.

Endorsed by No One

I was talking with a buddy of mine about all the people we see that wear New Balance and he asked why New Balance doesn't do endorsement deals. It's a good question. New Balance has an "Endorsed by no one" philosophy. Basically, we would rather spend our money on the technology we put in to our shoes then on celebrity-athletes wearing them. We do help sponsor some professional runner, running events, and charities like Girls on the Run. Which New Balance thinks is a better way to spread the word then lots of flashy ads. The bread and butter of our business is not the pro-athlete but the real athlete that's up a 5 am trying to beat his personal best. That's why we're endorsed by no one!

Ocean Drive 5K

We'll the Gasparilla 5K is over but another fun race that will be coming up next month is the Ocean Drive 5K. The Ocean Drive will raise money for Mount Sinai Caner Center, and be darting through fabulous Miami Beach. The race concludes at Nikki Beach with after-race party and messages. Raising money for cancer research and getting messages on the beach, why wouldn't you run this race on March 8th

New Balance to Sponsor 1st Marine Corps Half Marathon

New Balance has just agreed to be the presenting sponsor at of the inaugural Marine Corps Historic Half, to be held May 18 2008 in Fredericksburg, Va. "Being a presenting sponsor of a brand new race is an exciting way for us to reach out to the running community to highlight our innovative performance products and unique brand attributes", said Stanford Jennings regional sales manager of NB. The Marine Corps Marathon is respected as on of the best races in the country and I'm sure the Half will also become a favorite. However, you may want to plan for this race in 2009. The Half sold out in just thirteen days.

5K: We did it!

The race was great! Despite some confusion on seeding and corrals, it was a great race. Everyone was warm and friendly and the race was scenic with nice weather. Everyone in the team crossed together though we peppered back and forth during the race. I haven't gotten our chip times yet but it was about 40 minutes on the clock. We may not be the fastest but by gorge we had a good time. So good in fact that a few of us have decided to run the Ocean Drive 5K in Miami on March 8th. Hope to see you there

Great Price on a Great Running Style

The 1061 is a great neutral cushioned trainer, which has been recently updated to the 1062. Now you may notice that the 1062 is not available on line yet, but you can order it via a phone order toll free at 877-628-2672. If you like me, and a little scared of something new, I would stock up on the 1061 now while it is still available. When it's gone it's gone. Also the 1061 is currently marked down to 89.99 that's a $30 saving off the retail price. Because of the limited availability of these award-winning shoes, you may want to call to see the availability of your size.

Last 5K Update before the Race

Friday the Gasparilla Expo opens. If you are a runner in the Tampa area, you should check it out. There will be lots of deals and cool new things to check out. Not to mention that New Balance Tampa will be out there and we got some nice deals. Besides a possible shin splint issue, the team is looking good and hopefully we will not make fools of ourselves

1009 Great for the Gym and 5K

We had a customer e-mail inquiring about the WX1009 and I thought it would be good to share that info with everyone. The predecessors of the 1009 where the popular 1008 and 1007. The new 1009 has a similar fit to the predecessors and can still take you from the gym to a 5K run with ease. 1009 has improved cushioning with Abzorb SBS in the forefoot and Abzorb DTS in the heel. The Stability Web provides support while reducing weight. The 1007 did have a TPU Medial Post, which has been removed in later models. This series is great for an active lifestyle and remains one of our most popular models.

27 Dresses and a pair of 992

Anyone that has read this blog knows that I get a dorky rush out of seeing NB products on famous people or in movies. As my friends and I went to see 27 Dresses, I noticed that James Marsden, the sexy cynic in the movie, is wearing grey 992 throughout the film. This lead to a conversation in the movie theater about how 992s look good with anything, and like army uniforms, makes any guy look good. The ladies behind us apparently didn't agree with us and tattled to the usher that we were talking. But I my point still stands, 992s are a must have for guys, and a good V-day gift.

Race for the Cure 2008

The 10th Annual Susan G. Komen Florida Suncoast Race for the Cure® will take place, Saturday, October 4, 2008! The 2007 Race was a huge success. Over 10,000 people participated and over $900,000 was raised for the Florida Suncoast Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. We hope to see you at this year's race where we'll celebrate 10 years of running for breast cancer awareness, education, and treatment. For the first time, a 10K run in addition to a 5K and 1K runs/walks will be added. The goal for this Race is to have over 13,000 men, women, and children participate, and raise over $1 million to help end breast cancer forever. I'll be at the race, decked in pink of course, and I hope to see lots of you there.

5K Update

5K Update: The Gasparilla Marathon will be on Sunday the 10th, but the 5K will be on the 9th. The teams looking good and we've raised almost $5,000. Now we just have to ride a few more training miles, go to the expo and have fun at the run. Hope to see lots of people at the race. If you see a group of girls decked head to toe in NB gear give a hello.
