The Running Times reviews the new men’s and women’s 1223 and the 858 in their September 2007 issue. Testers of the 1223 said the following:

”Although it has a large amount of cushioning throughout, the shoe maintains a firm feeling after heelstrike.”

”New Balance calls the 858 a high-mileage stability shoe. Our wear-testers give it more credit, considering it a top-notch motion control shoe with plenty of supportive cushioning.”

Here's a good question that I received today:

What is the conversion in sizing from a Men's size to a Women's size in shoes?

For instance, if one wears a 9D in men's what would it be in women's size?
The general rule of thumb is to go 1 1/2 sizes down.
However, if you are going to a women's shoe size to men's shoe size, it may be a good idea to go up 2 sizes.

Our fitting rep would say that if you wear a Men's 9D, you would wear a Women's 11D. Staying the same with the width. However, if you are going from a Women's 9D, you would wear a 7 1/2 D in Men's sizes.

This is a general rule of thumb that generally provides a close as possible fit. It is a good starting point to begin the fitting process. We would still advise one to go to a New Balance dealer and get fitted for this type of switch in sizes. Because of the many discrepancies between model sizing and lasts, it is never a good idea to buy shoes based solely on these conversions.

In case you have been out of the loop on the PF Flyers, in 2001, New Balance Athletic Shoes acquired PF Flyers and a new product was introduced in Spring 2003.

Chinese Inspired Retro Shoe
