Yesterday, New Balance put a press release stating that the New Balance Foundation is contributing one million dollars to Habitat for Humanity. This is to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita along the Gulf Coast to provide permanent housing solutions. This is not surprising because New Balance has been involved with Habitat for Humanity in the past.

I just received my April 2006 issue of Running Times. There is an article on page 44 about Scott McGowan. Scott is on the New Balance team roster.

The Gasparilla Distance Classic will be held on Saturday February 25. Events will include a 5K, 15K, Half Marathon and Marathon.

On Friday, Feb. 24, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 25, 6 a.m. – 5 p.m. a Health Expo will be held at the Tampa Convention Center.

I received an email today which asked the following question:
What is the difference between the old New Balance 1001 tennis shoe and the updated 1002?
The 1002 is the updated version of the 1001.
The following changes were made:
The New Balance 1002 now has added ABZORB in the forefoot along with the ABZORB SBS, this means more cushioning.
They switched to an ACTEVA Midsole a superior light weight foam which is very durable.
Added ETC which is an Anti-microbial/friction sock liner, which reduces friction, heat build up and blisters.
The 1002 tennis shoe is made in both Men and Women sizes.

The New Balance Global Centennial Team was formed to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of New Balance.
New Balance is inviting the athletes from the following 50 races around the world, with a total of over 500,000 participants to enter the contest. Two runner ups from each race will win a prize.

Back in 2004 when we started blogging we really didn't know what to expect. So we just blogged and let it take us wherever it took us. With that in mind we utilized a canned blog solution from BlogX and it's suited is well until now. I mentioned in my previous blog 856 New Balance Updated to 857 that I would keep you posted on any reviews on the New Balance 857.

I just received my March issue of Runner's World magazine. The March issue features the Spring Shoe Buyer’s Guide. Runner's World states that the changes made on the 857 "bolster stability and improve the shoes ride". They also note that the 857 is recommended for runners with normal to flat arches in need of a very supportive stability shoe. Testers stated that the 857 had a "surprising amount of flexibility and forefoot cushioning".

New Balance unveiled the Circa V collection at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market Show, January 28-31, 2006, in Salt Lake City. The line will be available at retail stores starting in Fall 2006. Suggested retail prices range from $130 to $280.

New Balance has teamed up with Nano-Tex Outdoor offering a line of new, vintage-inspired outwear line, called the Circa V Collection. The collection was unveiled at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market Show in Salt Lake City. The line will retail from $130 to $280 starting in Fall 2006. The Nano-Tex is a durable water repellency treatment. The technology can make cotton and synthetic fabrics liquid-repellent and stain-resistant. The patented technology is properly designed to have greater durability and superior performance yet allowing the technology to not affect the feel or comfort of the fabric.

"Consumers are demanding more comfort, functionality and style from their everyday apparel," said Libby Neuner, senior vice president of apparel sales at Nano-Tex. "Our technology makes it possible to use the most comfortable and desirable materials such as cotton in outerwear that will continue to look and feel good regardless of the weather."
