The Zen of New Balance

There's lots of buzz lately about the Elements 576 collection, New Balance's limited-edition line of sneakers honoring the basis of the universe according to Chinese Taoism.  Three of the five essential Taoist elements are highlighted by 576:  Earth, Wood and Water.

The Earth model, white with a brown sediment-inspired trim and stitching, hit the streets on April 1, 2008.  Wood appeared on May1, in a black and green design with a peel leather effect that brings to mind leaves and bark.  Next up is the meditative Water, floating out on June 1 in a blue-white color scheme – you'll love this very chill transparent rubber outsole with a blue water-bubble pattern.

A Lightweight Shoe Strong Enough For All Outside

New Balance 902The 902 may very well be the Holy Grail of running shoes – a light 10.1 ounces with support that's even better than most midweight shoes.  Who says so?  Outside Magazine, for one.  The editors at Outside gave New Balance 902 their coveted Gear of the Year designation, with kudos for the many high-tech features and a universal thumbs-up from the field testers:

"Every tester was impressed with the 902's support-to-weight ratio … "To have a lightweight trainer with this much cushioning is astounding," said one tester."

This modern marvel was also praised for its performance in varied terrain:

"You can slam the downhills with abandon," noted one tester, "but it won't bog you down on the flats."

Also noted as a big plus -- but something that's just all in a day's work at New Balance:  902 is available in multiple widths.

For The Cure Season

Susan G. Komen For The CureAll over the country, it's Susan G. Komen For the Cure season! Running and walking events are taking place in dozens of cities throughout the summer and fall to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer.  We're proud to be part of the effort.

Since 1989, New Balance has been committed to Susan G. Komen for the Cure through the National Series Sponsorship of the Race for the Cure® and Breast Cancer 3-Day.  The events are terrifically well-organized and supported by countless volunteers, and play out as much like a celebration as an athletic endeavor.  In addition to helping raise money, the events are a very moving opportunity to honor a breast cancer victim or survivor.  If you haven't been part of a Susan G. Komen before, please consider it this season.

If you're participating or just want to look good and do good while spiffing up your active look, check out our Pink Ribbon collection here. New Balance donates 15% of wholesale sales from this collection to Komen for the Cure.

New Balance Shoe Finder

New Balance Shoe FinderI wanted to let everyone know about a new feature we launched yesterday. It's called the New Balance Shoe Finder and you'll find it right on our home page. I've seen similar features on other Footwear Web Sites but I was always disappointed because I always found that these sites would allow users to choose from possibilities that they didn't really have Shoes for and that resulted in irritating "Sorry No Shoes Found" messages.

So that's the problem we set out to solve. Let our customers find what they're looking for without the irritation by choosing...

  • Their Gender

  • Available Sizes for their Gender

  • Available Widths for their Gender and Size selection

New Balance Size SelectorThe last 2 elements are the most important to you the customer. Our system was designed to not show you options that don't have matching shoes and so when you select your Gender the Shoe Size Selector will become enabled.

Once you've made your Gender selection our system will check for all available sizes that match your Gender selection and populate them into the Shoe Size selector.

New Balance Width Finder

After a Size Selection has been made the system will then perform that same type of action and return all available shoe widths that match your Gender and Size selections!

Once your selections are made click the "Get Shoes" Link to view all of the possible footwear models based on your criteria.

To make it easy we've grouped the results by Category and we've provided you with simple filtering tools so that you can remove the Categories that you do not wish to see.

Here's what the filtering options look like for my search which was for Mens, Size 11 and D Width.

We hope you enjoy the new feature!
